Last date for submitting applications (fresh & renewal) on National Scholarship Portal for 2024-25 under NMMSS extended

The last date for submission of applications by selected meritorious students on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the year 2024-25 has been extended to 15th October 2024. The NSP portal has been open for submission of applications since 30th June 2024.

One-Time Registration (OTR) Process

In the 2024-25 project year, selected students are required to first complete a One-Time Registration (OTR) on the NSP, after which they can apply for the scholarship scheme they have chosen. The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS), implemented by the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, is aimed at supporting meritorious students from economically weaker sections. The scheme helps prevent dropouts after the elementary level (Class VIII) and encourages students to continue their education up to the higher secondary level (Class XII).

Scholarships Offered

Each year, one lakh fresh scholarships are awarded to Class IX students who pass the qualifying exam conducted by their respective State/UT governments. The scholarship is renewed from Class X to Class XII based on the student’s academic performance. It is available only to students attending State Government, Government-aided, and local body schools, with a scholarship amount of Rs. 12,000 per annum per student.

Application and Disbursement Process

Application Submission Statistics

As of 1st October 2024, 81,443 fresh applications and 152,617 renewal applications have been successfully submitted by students. The NMMSS scholarships are disbursed directly to the bank accounts of the selected students via electronic transfer through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) following the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for applying for the NMMSS include:

Parental income should not exceed Rs. 3.5 lakh per annum.

•The student must have obtained a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in their Class VII examination to qualify for the selection test (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST students).

Application Verification Process

Levels of Verification

The NSP portal requires two levels of verification for the scholarship applications of selected students:

1. Level-1 (L1) Verification: Conducted by the Institute Nodal Officer (INO).

2. Level-2 (L2) Verification: Conducted by the District Nodal Officer (DNO).

The last date for L1 verification is 31st October 2024, and the last date for L2 verification is 15th November 2024.
